We are a transition home, assisting young girls who have aged out of the foster care system gain the life skills and critical foundations necessary to take on their future.
Our residents live in a community with other young women, similar to a college dorm. There are expectations like housekeeping, a code of conduct, curfew, etc. Women in the community of J127 participate in life skills classes and other social and recreational activities. Each resident is expected to spend about 25-30 hours being productive every week doing things like working, volunteering, going to school, and working on personal goals.
How much will it cost me to live at J127?
Moving into J127 is free! Our program aims to teach you how to identify your own living expenses and work to provide for yourself once you leave. In month three of our program, you will begin to “practice” paying rent based on your level of participation in the program. Upon your transition from J127, you may be eligible to receive a portion of that money back as a nest egg for your next phase of life.
How long can I stay?
J127 is more than a temporary shelter. We provide an opportunity for young women to take a step out of survival mode and secure a foundation for lifelong change. This process takes time. Our residents live at J127 for 1-2 years on average, however some may stay much longer and some may stay much shorter. The length of time really depends on the individual’s personal goals/needs and willingness to try new things.
