The homeless population nationwide struggles with access to healthcare, and eviction is often a result of poor health. In 2012, 40 percent of the homeless population suffered from a mental illness or chronic substance abuse according to the National Alliance to End Homelessness.
The registered nurses and APRN at the Tulsa Day Center are always hard at work between treating diabetes, providing immunizations before flu season and treating frost bite. The Day Center is one of the few homeless charities in the nation that provides free healthcare to all of its clients, including prescribing and filling medication.
