The Downtown Shelter at John 3:16 Mission provides emergency overnight shelter (overnight stays for men), daily meals and chapel services year-round. The shelter is located at 506 N. Cheyenne Ave and operates an evening schedule for intake and bed assignments. The organization also operates residential recovery programs and other family/youth services at separate campuses.
What to know before you go
- Hours / availability
- Phones are answered 24/7. Typical nightly schedule: doors open 5:00 p.m.; chapel begins 5:45 p.m.; dinner about 6:30 p.m.; bed check-in (shower and scrubs required) begins 7:00 p.m.; lights out 9:00 p.m.; wake 7:00 a.m.; breakfast 7:30 a.m.; doors close for cleaning/maintenance at 8:00 a.m. The facility’s lobby/operations may make limited exceptions during inclement or dangerous weather.
- Eligibility
- Overnight shelter services are for males only (policy specifies biological males dressed in male clothing or scrubs provided by the Mission). Guests must comply with Mission rules: valid photo ID (or provide within first week), TB card if staying >1 week, no weapons, no alcohol, and no illegal or non-prescribed drugs on site. Registered sex offenders are not allowed to stay. Guests who create unsafe conditions may be suspended. Women do not have overnight shelter space at this location but may receive referrals or access women’s day programming at other Mission locations.
- How to access this service
- Arrive to the Downtown Shelter by 5:00 p.m. to check in for chapel, dinner and bed assignment. Bring photo identification. If you plan to stay more than a week, bring a TB card (the Mission can help obtain one). If you are employed and cannot arrive by check-in time you may call the Mission to reserve/retain a bed (proof of employment may be required). If a photo ID is not available at initial check-in, it must be provided within the first week. Guests must complete required registration paperwork to continue staying at the Mission.

- Photo ID (any photo ID). TB card if you plan to stay more than one week. If seeking a retained bed because of employment, bring proof of employment when requested.
